About dental implants

What are dental implants?

If you’ve lost one or more teeth, dental implants are an effective way to restore your smile. A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth. It comprises an implant that screws into the jawbone, an abutment that screws into the implant and acts as the tooth “inner,” and a crown that sits on the abutment to look and function like a natural tooth.

Dr. Blank provides expert dental implant services. Call now to schedule a consultation to see if dental implants can work for you.

What are the benefits of having a dental implant?

Teeth not only allow you to chew and bite but also support your facial structure and help maintain jawbone health. When you lose a tooth, it leaves a gap that compromises your oral health.

Dental implants act like natural teeth. They provide facial stability, restore eating function and bite, and give you back a winning smile.

Dental implants are also a popular method to secure dentures and bridges. The implant provides a sturdy anchor point, making for a more comfortable and secure fit.

What happens during a dental implant procedure?

A dental implant procedure takes several months and multiple visits. Before you start treatment, Dr. Blank assesses your mouth and jawbone to determine whether dental implants are suitable for you.

You must have enough available jawbone for the implant to screw into securely and your mouth to be free from cavities and gum disease. If you need work done before you can have a dental implant procedure, Dr. Blank builds it into your custom treatment plan.

Once you’re clear to proceed, Dr. Blank takes impressions of your jaw and teeth to create new teeth in a dental lab. Your new prosthetics match your remaining teeth in size, shape, and color so as to be virtually invisible once fitted.

First, Dr. Blank numbs the treatment area and inserts the implant into the jawbone. It takes between two and six months for the bone to fuse around the implant. When your mouth has healed, Dr. Blank makes your crown — the “tooth.” It can take several weeks before the fit is correct. When the crown’s ready, Dr. Blank attaches it to the abutment.
